The code never arrives
- Codes are sent by WhatsApp first, because it is quicker and free to receive. If the number has no WhatsApp, the code follows by SMS a few seconds later — wait a moment before asking for another.
- Check the country beside the number field. A number entered under the wrong country becomes a different number entirely.
-
Leave off the leading zero — pick your country and enter
1134960185, not01134960185. The app removes it for you as you type. - Codes last five minutes. After that, ask for a new one.
"We could not send your code right now"
The messaging gateway refused the send. The usual cause is a country we cannot yet deliver to — the United States and Canada in particular require a registered local number, which we do not have. Write to us with the number and we will tell you where it stands.
Removing your number
You do not need an account and you do not need the app — write to us with the number. We confirm the number is yours first, then every community-contributed name for it is deleted and it is blocked from future searches, permanently.
Ask for a number to be removed
Deleting your account
Open the app, go to Profile, and choose to delete the account. Your profile — name, email, description, photo, country — is cleared immediately and every session ends.
Some records are kept on purpose, and the privacy policy explains exactly which and why. If you want those erased too, email us from the number's account or tell us the number and we will do it by hand.
Caller ID is not showing names
- Android: the app needs permission to read contacts, the call log and phone state, and it must be allowed to draw over other apps or post notifications to tell you who is calling. Check these in system settings.
- iPhone: Apple only lets an app label calls through Settings → Apps → Phone → Call Blocking & Identification, where OwlCaller must be switched on. Names can take a minute to appear after a large update.
- A number nobody has saved under a name cannot be identified. The directory is built from real phonebooks, so it is not complete and never claims to be.
Reporting a wrong name or a spam number
Open the number in the app and use Report. If a name shown for your own number is wrong, the surest fix is asking us to remove the number entirely, which deletes every name held for it.
Data requests
To ask what is held about you, to correct it, or to have it erased, write to support@owlcaller.co from an address we can tie to the account, or include the phone number so we can send a code to confirm it is yours.
